Every client in Joy has a number of their own. Case Management shows it as Client ID in the client's header, and it is the number to quote when you contact the Joy support team or when you need to match a client to their record elsewhere in Joy. This guide shows you where to find it, how to copy it, and how to use it to jump back to that client.
Find the Client ID
In the Case Management sidebar, open Client cases.
Select the client's name in the list.
Look at the header at the top of their page. On the same line as their name you will see Client ID: followed by the number.
The number does not change. It is the client's Joy record number, so the same number identifies that person in Joy and in Case Management.
Copy it
Select the copy icon immediately after the number. A short Client ID copied confirmation appears, and the number is on your clipboard ready to paste into an email, a support conversation or a spreadsheet.
If your browser blocks clipboard access you will see Could not copy client ID instead. The number is still selectable on screen, so you can highlight it and copy it by hand.
Use it to find the client again
Paste the number into the search box at the top of Case Management. The placeholder reads Search clients by name, NHS number, or contact and does not mention the ID, but searching by the number works: type or paste at least two characters and the matching client appears in the results. Select them to open their page.
If nothing matches you will see No clients found. — see the notes below.
Notes and troubleshooting
Which number should I give to support? The Client ID from the client's header. It identifies the client precisely and, unlike a name, does not risk confusion between two people with the same name.
Search finds nothing for a number I know is right. Two things to check. First, the number must belong to a client in the organisation you are currently signed in to. Second, if the client is hidden, they only appear for the staff assigned to them and for organisation Owners — see How to hide a client, a case or your whole caseload.
Search returns several clients for one number. The search matches any part of a number, so a short ID can appear inside a longer one, or inside an NHS number or phone number. Check the names in the results and pick the right person.
Is the Client ID the same as the NHS number? No. The NHS number is the client's national health identifier and is recorded on the Profile tab. The Client ID is Joy's own record number for that person. Both can be searched on, but only the Client ID is shown in the header.
Where does the client's ID appear elsewhere? When you save a note through the Save a note to Joy card on the Summary tab, the confirmation quotes the client number it saved against — the same number as the header. See How to read the Client Overview screen.
