You can load the correct patient in JoyConnectWeb before taking any action.
Before you start
Use the access method supplied by your organisation. Connected mode needs an active EMIS or SystmOne connection; in standalone/Lite mode, search manually. The Academy describes a desktop widget, while its introduction and the user guide describe browser access. These sources differ: do not assume every setup opens in the same way.
Step by step
Connected mode (EMIS or SystmOne)
When JoyConnectWeb is connected to your clinical system, it will pop up automatically when you open your patient's record. If it hasn't appeared, double-click the JoyConnectWeb icon on your desktop to open it.
Open your patient's record in EMIS or SystmOne as normal.
JoyConnectWeb will appear automatically. If it does not, double-click the JoyConnectWeb icon on your desktop.
Check the patient's name and date of birth in JoyConnectWeb match the patient in front of you before proceeding.
Standalone mode
For the desktop-widget setup demonstrated in the Academy: In standalone mode it will appear automatically, or double-click the JoyConnectWeb icon on your desktop to open it. You will then need to search for your patient manually.
Open JoyConnectWeb by double-clicking the icon on your desktop if it has not appeared automatically.
In the patient search bar, enter one or more of the following: NHS number, first name, last name, or date of birth.
Select the correct patient from the results list.
Confirm the name, date of birth, and NHS number match your patient before proceeding.
Always verify before you act
Even when a patient loads automatically, take a moment to check the details on screen match the person in front of you before taking any action.
Check the result
The intended patient's name, date of birth and NHS number are confirmed before any referral, signpost, Health Check, note or fileback.
