Use the Medical Records feature to quickly view a summary of your patient's health history — and understand why the Harvey Ball matters before you click.
Before you start
Medical Records must be enabled and your access must be appropriate to your role and purpose. Verify the patient first. Wait for the Harvey Ball to be fully black; this is a readiness indicator, not a guarantee that the summary contains the patient's entire history.
Step by step
Once the Harvey Ball next to your patient's name is fully black, you're ready to view their medical record.
Open your patient in JoyConnectWeb and check the Harvey Ball next to their name is fully black.
Click the Medical Records button.
The patient's surgery ODS code will load automatically — you don't need to enter this yourself.
Type in your reason for viewing the record.
Click View.
You'll see a clear summary of the patient's medical history from the last few months.
Why you need a reason for viewing
Entering a reason for viewing is a standard information governance step — it creates an audit trail showing that the access was clinically justified. Keep it brief but clear, for example: "Checking medication history before referral."
Check the result
The recent medical-history summary is visible after you enter a justified reason for access. It is a summary, not a replacement for the full clinical record.
