Practice managers: How to configure EMIS for your upgrade to JoyConnect

Steps for Practice Managers as part of a central IT upgrade to JoyConnect.

📌 Note: Only for EMIS practices already using Joy software.

Part 1: Update user EMAS permissions

  1. Click the EMIS ball

  2. Choose “System Tools” 👇

  3. Choose “EMAS Manager” 👇

4. Choose "Partner API" 👇 from the bottom left

5. Find and then select "Joy" 👇 from the list

6. Click “Edit Users” 👇

7. Click on "User" 👇 to alphabetize the list

8. Find the name of any staff who may be connecting/signposting patients to local services e.g.

This includes:

  • GPs and clinicians who may signpost a patient to support during a consultation

  • Admins Staff handling appointment requests

  • ARRS roles such as Social prescribers/health coaches/care coordinators

Please don’t untick any users who are already ticked.

9. Tick the box next to their name ☑️

10. Click "OK" 👇

11. Click “Log in Access” 👇

12. Click on "User" 👇 to alphabetise the list

13. Find the name of any staff who may be connecting/signposting patients to local services e.g.

This includes:

  • GPs and clinicians who may signpost a patient to support during a consultation

  • Admins Staff handling appointment requests

  • ARRS roles such as Social prescribers/health coaches/care coordinators

Please don’t untick any users who are already ticked.

14. Tick both boxes for “auto” ☑️ and “allow login” ☑️

15. Click “OK" 👇

16. You have now updated the EMAS permissions correctly! 🎉


Part 2: Reactivate the partner API

You will need to deactivate and then reactivate the Joy Partner API before continuing with the JoyConnect install.

  1. Click on Partner API, find Joy in the list and click 'Deactivate application' 👇

2. Find 'Joy' in the list on the Partner API again and click 'reactivate' 👇

3. You should now see green ticks ✔️ under the service message details for Joy

4. Please log out and log back into EMIS for all changes to take effect

5. You have now reactivated the partner API! 🎉

What to do after completing these steps


1. Make sure you have send the above email to our support team. Here is the link: email

2. Await confirmation from Joy and your IT team that JoyConnect has been installed

3. Book in a Joy training workshop for yourself and/or any staff that will use JoyConnect for social prescribing referrals
