๐ Note: Please follow this guide ONLY if you are a practice manager or digital lead and wish to install JoyConnect. Please have your EMIS username and password ready before you start this process.

Part 1: Update user EMAS permissions

4. Choose "Partner API" ๐ from the bottom left
5. Find and then select "Joy" ๐ from the list
6. Click โEdit Usersโ ๐
7. Click on "User" ๐ to alphabetize the list
8. Find the name of any staff who may be connecting/signposting patients to local services
โThis includes:
GPs and clinicians who may signpost a patient to support during a consultation
Admins Staff handling appointment requests
ARRS roles such as Social prescribers/health coaches/care coordinators
Please donโt untick any users who are already ticked.
9. Tick the box next to their name โ๏ธ
10. Click "OK" ๐
11. Click โLog in Accessโ ๐
12. Click on "User" ๐ to alphabetise the list
13. Find the name of any staff who may be connecting/signposting patients to local services e.g.
This includes:
GPs and clinicians who may signpost a patient to support during a consultation
Admins Staff handling appointment requests
ARRS roles such as Social prescribers/health coaches/care coordinators
Please donโt untick any users who are already ticked.
14. Tick both boxes for โautoโ โ๏ธ and โallow loginโ โ๏ธ
Please donโt untick any users who are already ticked.
15. Click โOK" ๐
16. You have now updated the EMAS permissions correctly! ๐
Part 2: Reactivate the partner API
You will need to deactivate and then reactivate the Joy Partner API before continuing with the JoyConnect install
Click on Partner API, find Joy in the list and click 'Deactivate application' ๐
2. Find 'Joy' in the list on the Partner API again and click 'reactivate' ๐
3. You should now see green ticks under the service message details for Joy
4. Please log out and log back into EMIS for all changes to take effect
5. You have now reactivated the partner API! ๐
Part 3: JoyConnect install
Open up the client record of a 'dummy' patient with an NHS number or 'real' patient on EMIS
Joy is bundled with an auto-updater and we would recommend downloading and installing the latest version of Joy that can be found here.
Please click on the installed file ๐
Click 'Yes' ๐ on the pop-up window stating 'Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?'
Note: Administrative rights are required to install JoyConnect. If you encounter an error during installation, contact your IT administrator to complete the process.
5. You will need to click 'Install' ๐ when this window appears

If you cannot see this window please look at the bottom of your screen for this icon:
If you click this icon it will open the window
You will then see the below screen when JoyConnect is installing:
6. Once installation is successful click 'Close' ๐ on this window
7. JoyConnect should now be installed! ๐
Please Install .net (if required)
If you don't have .net installed it will prompt you to install .net
If you do have .net installed skip this step
Once this is finished installing you will have to restart JoyConnect
If you encounter issues during installation, ensure that you have administrative rights and that all prerequisites, such as .net, are installed. For further assistance, consult your IT administrator.
Activate JoyConnect - the final step
Enter your EMIS username and password on the activation window shown below
Troubleshooting Activation Issues: If you experience issues activating JoyConnect, ensure that the installation was completed by an administrator. Activation errors are often resolved by verifying that the software was installed correctly and that you have the necessary permissions to use it.
This will appear automatically - if not, look for JoyConnect in your taskbar or ask your practice manager.
2. The JoyConnect widget will appear on your screen
Note: You may need to wait a minute for the icon to appear. If you still cannot see the icon after a few minutes, check or expand your taskbar - the JoyConnect application may be minimised there.
If the widget does not appear, ensure that you are using a compatible system and that a patient record is open. This functionality is built to streamline your workflow by providing quick access to JoyConnect features.

4. Click the '+' symbol ๐ to open JoyConnect
5. You can now use JoyConnect on EMIS! ๐
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you encounter any issues during the installation or activation of JoyConnect, follow these steps:
Verify that the installation was performed by someone with administrative rights.
Ensure all prerequisites, such as .net, are installed.
Check that you are using a compatible system and that a patient record is open for the widget to appear.
For persistent issues, consult your IT administrator or refer to the Joy App support resources.
