Installing JoyConnect on EMIS for practice staff

A quick guide for practice staff on how to install and activate JoyConnect on EMIS so you can start referring patients.

📌 Note: JoyConnect needs to be installed on every machine that will be used to make referrals.

Before you start

📌 You will need:

  • Admin rights on your computer to install the software

  • Your EMIS username and password ready for activation

  • EMIS already configured for Joy by your Practice Manager or Digital Lead — if this hasn't been done, see this guide first

Install JoyConnect on your device

1. Open the record of a 'dummy' patient (with an NHS number) or a real patient in EMIS.

2. Download the latest version of the JoyConnect installer from this page. Joy is bundled with an auto-updater, so downloading the latest version ensures future updates work correctly.

3. Click on the downloaded installer file, then click 'Yes' 👇 when asked "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"

4. Click 'Download' 👇 on the file.

5. Using the arrow in the top right-hand corner of your screen, click the downloaded file 👇 to open it.

6. When the setup window appears, click 'Install' 👇.

Can't see the install window? Look for this icon at the bottom of your screen and click it to open the window:

You'll see this screen while JoyConnect is installing:

7. Once installation is complete, click 'Close' 👇.

.NET install (if prompted)

  • If you don't have .NET installed, you'll be prompted to install it — just follow the prompts

  • If .NET is already installed, you can skip this step

  • Once .NET finishes installing, restart JoyConnect

Activate JoyConnect

1. The activation window should appear automatically. Enter your EMIS username and password ✍️.

If the window doesn't appear, check your taskbar for JoyConnect or ask your practice manager.

2. The JoyConnect widget will appear on your screen.

Note: It may take a minute for the icon to appear. If it still doesn't show up, check or expand your taskbar — JoyConnect may be minimised there.

3. Click the '+' symbol 👇 to open JoyConnect.

4. You can now use JoyConnect! 🎉
